Default selector valve?

ok i have a 91 f-150 4x4 the fuel is returning to the rear tank when the switch in the cab is set to the front tank now i can't find a selector valve on here anywhere are they only on carbureted trucks or am i missing something ? so i assume it has what ford is calling FDM that has a shuttle valve as part of the fuel pump that allows the fuel to return to the tank that it is being taken from .so that tells me the rear shuttle valve is stuck in the open possition so i blocked the return line to the rear tank (i don't use this tank because of a leak)is this an ok thing to do and do i know what i'm talking about?

All the work is done electrically. The switch selects which pumjp to run, when off (not selected) the pump has a check valve to prevent the pressurized fuel from other pump back feeding into the not selected tank. So what ever tank, fuel is being cross feed into has a bad pump.

Mine was just the opposite (rear tank worked, but the front one took on return fuel), and I capped all the lines to the non-working tank and removed it completely. Works like a charm.

Aliens, after all the posts from you, never have I felt the Bandaid approach theory from you. But times are tough, its like a ferry permit for a busted aircraft, throw the book away, anything is legal, just fly her home for repairs. Hope all is status-quo at your end. Surviving at this end.

All is well here, and not really trying to skimp (well, ok - I'm getting ready to drop in a new crate motor, so money might make a difference). In all honesty, I don't really do much long distance driving that would benefit from 2 fuel tanks - getting rid of one didn't really hurt at all, and saved me several hundred bucks too.

Done that too many times, sometimes I wished I hadn't!

I removed my front tank and it was still working fine just don't have the need
for 2 tanks
Plus I had plans for the space that the tank was in.
