Rusting 1995
What can I do about the rust? Its getting worse and worse, and the road salt isnt helping. Rear wheel wells espically. Drivers side rear is rusted through. Can i Cut it out, rust coat the crap out of it, and put on plastic covers over the wheel wells?
If replacing the the rust parts isn't easy to come by, you will have to do some "rust stop" body work to minimize or halt the rust. Obviously there is a lot of water trapped near the rust spots, either through it not being able to be diverted away or trapped in the bubbles surrounding the rust spots. You will need to determine if the water is "holding" during rain storms. If not then it is a matter of grinding away the area surrounding the rust spots and welding sheet metal over the holes and whatever other body work needed to cover the holes. Then use a good primer, rust inhibitor conditioner and paint.
It's a common problem area on this era ford trucks. Here's a source for replacement rust repair panels for that area, priced at $35. NAPA parts stores in my area carry these as well as other rust repair panels.

Ask if it's primed & ready for paint. If so, find someone to spot weld/mig weld this in place. After that's done, I'd seal the inside seam with a 3M seam sealer then follow up with 3M rust proof spray.
Old timers used to spray gear oil inside those areas & it would stop the rust from continuing or taking hold. Needs done every 6 months though & can be messy.
