Default Replacing head gasket

my 1989 I6 is going to need a new head gasket. Any advice or tips and how long should this take?

I tshouldnt take too long...hardest part is going to be taking the Intake and exhaust off...

the rest is easy...just make sure you check the heat for warpage....no sense in putting on another gasket only to have it blow in a few short miles...

Check the head carefully for cracks, they crack easy. Don't unbolt the downpipes so you won't have to deal with broken bolts.

Also you might want help taking the head off. They are pretty heavy, and it wouldn't hurt if there was another set of hands to position it. And dont forget to keep the push rods and rockers where they were on the head.

weekends worth of work should about do it. make sure to have the cylinder head tested for cracks and such before putting it back on and if you have never done this before i gotta say learning from experience, take lots of pictures as you go and be sure to precisley label everything you take off and where it came from. if you don't you might end up with (in my case a Grand Prix in your driveway that hasn't moved in 2 months due to idk what....)
