Default replace water pump gasket only

i had a coolant pressure test on my 1994 Ford F150 and according to the mechanic the leak is coming from front of the water pump gasket my question, is it possible to replace water pump gasket only or do i need a new water pump. my water pump is over 2years old. thanks

You can put a Remanufactured water pump (an old housing with all new everything else) for $18 from Advance Auto. Doesn't make sense to me to replace the gasket and not the pump too for that little bit of change. If you want brand new, advance has it for $44

I wouldn't change just the gasket. I would def. Spend the 25 or 30 bucks to get a new pump too.

Speaking from experience. I mean unless u like doing everything twice lol

If it was a quality pump and the bearing is tight, should be ok.

no sense in spending money unless you need to, like an old man once said "if it aint broke dont fix it". if your pump dont make noise or no play is in the shaft then i wouldnt waste the money. all the pumps i have replaced except one made a god awful grinding sound and the shaft was loose.

Its actually sad they dont make pumps rebuildable, the only thing that really goes is the bearing and seal.

that would be a loss in income, its prolly more profitable to pay some poor mexicans or chinese kids to rebuild them over seas or in mexico than it would be to just make them rebuildable. but that doesn't mean i don't agree with you, i do 100%!

On a 1994 f150 6 cylinder I am replacing the water pump but first need to take the fun clutch out Please tell me how can I do this. I tried a fan wrench but it was to thick and could not fit between the bolts of the fun blades and the Poole

430 Channel Lock pliers. I think that's just the standard size channel lock. I used that on mine to get the fan/clutch assembly off of the water pump.

The second time.

The first time I had to remove the whole water pump with the fan still attached, and take it to a shop for them to break the tight seal the nut that holds the fan on had on the shaft in the pump. After that it was smooth sailing.
