Remove CAT, YA or NA
I am thinking of gutting my CAT. I just have a few questions. Will this affect mpg? How much HP should I expect? ans is there anything els I will need to know or do if I gut this thing? Is it worth it?
what year is your truck? and what engine?
i personally would not gut them if they are on a efi motor, but to each his own and if your going to gut them you might as well remove all the smog stuff too. they make a smog pump delete pully for most of the motors in our trucks. free up all the power you can.
and i think most of the EXTRA power people feel from doing this is all in their heads. and most of the time they put on their first flowmaster too so it really gets their blood flowing.

NA. We gas guzzel enough. Lets not let more noxious fumes into the air. I don't have cats but plan to put them on it. Even if they are high flow cats. I even get kinda sick of the raw gas smell when I back into my carport. But first I must rebuild my engine. But that is neither here nor there.
Removing your cat will allow your motor to breath better. it will also kill a small amount of mileage. Removing the smog stuff to go with it is pretty simple. Some just take their belt off and get thje smaller one that bypasses the pump and leave it in place. You'll free up about 2-4hp per pulley on the motor from parasitic loss. So thats another few hp with an electric fan, electric waterpump etc.
adding a better spark system is useful in making sure you get the entire combustion chamber burned off when removing the cats. Helps offset the milage loss abit.

NOPE, I like "Na or YA"... But good to see you can grasp the point of the question......
I am running a 94 mustang gt 5.0 in my 89 xlt L. I have flowmasters and straight dual exaust. So let me get this right I will lose mpg, gain HP, and I should bypass the pump? What kind of gains would I see from this? Also why would you not do it if I have EFI? And how can I tell if I have one?

if you are EFI your o2's will be wacked without your cats and make you run rich. Which can and usually does rob performance and kills mileage.
Also you engine is almost definitely EFI.
right?
