wait....engines have a redline....?

well with no tach how would you know if you are there anyhow...?

the engine HP spec is at 4500 so I'll say 5000rpm would be close to the redline...but definitely right before valve float...lol

When you hear the valves float, back off a little, but seriously, -6 is probally about 4000 my 302 usually only makes it to 3500 or so before it shifts.

no prob. these engines in our trucks usually dont rev that high unless they are really pushed hard, even then they go so high. You never mentioned what tranny.

you know, i never really did "research" what tranny i have.... im into working on vehicles ALOT and that suprises me that i dont even know what kind of tranny i have (that question caught me off guard)... but anyways, all i know it it's a 5 speed and the truck is a 96 4x4.... i was thinking the M50d? im probably wrong but i figured i'd shoot a answer out there just for the heck of it.... OH yea, i forgot, i crawled up under it one day and seen a borg warner tag on the tranny...dont know if that helps or not

After looking at the tach in my '91 with the I6/auto, I can easily confirm there is no redline :P

No but really, my tach stops at 6k, no redline...

I shift mine at 2000rpm and I doubt it has seen much of 3000rpm except a couple times I ran it kinda hard just to see what it would do...
