Take a picture. It could be the gasket. When was the last time it was changed? how many miles? Change it out and re-torque the pan bolts and you should be good! Let me know if you need parts

Change it, add a little RTV around the pan then put the gasket on

Just wait for your trained buddy but, capitalizes on the good help while he is there. Have him pull the codes and do a once over the whole truck. Have the truck on jack stands and yank the tires off so he can check the brakes ,seals,u-joints,front end, back end, fluids etc... These trucks are getting old and require more and more maintenance. Wait intel the cv joint goes out. It is easier to grease it than to replace it if it has a zert fitting. Pack his tools in, lay them out and feed him good.

changing the rear seal is easy.... you DO NOT need to drop the tranny....

pull both drive shafts and take the tranny mount loose and the bellhousing bolts and the shifter....

slide the whole assembly back so the input shaft is out of the pressure plate enough to work.... block the trans up or keep on a floor jack....

pull the flywheel and dust plate.

Take a flat screw driver and on the rubber lip pop the rear main seal out... DO NOT destroy the seal it pops out very easy.... clean the surfaces easy with brake clean...

take the NEW seal and lube the rubber lip both sides without getting any oil on the outer ring of the seal....

take a very THIN film of RTV on the outer edge of the mail seal.

Set the seal in the hole and hold it.....

Take the OLD seal and hold it over the top of the new seal....

Using a rubber mallet or dead blow lighty tap the new seal in... it will go right in and the RTV will seal the outer edge....

the lube on the rubber lip is so it wont burn up the lip seal up before it gets oil....

re-assemble trans....

I can do one in 2 hours easy on jack stands and floor jack...

get a floor jack.... it has a wider base... a bottle jack wont work as the trans will tip and fall and injuries occur....
