rear locking differential, is it worth it?
Since I'm am going to be changing my gear ratio, should I have a locker installed while they're in there. I know they are pretty expensive but are they worth it. I like to go off road as much as possible, but for the most part its on the street probably 80%, I think trucks belong in the dirt haha
By the way I don't have a LS in my current diff.

unless your going to be doing some hard offroading then i wouldnt go with a full locker. they can drive like crap they will pop on when making hard turns and snow is something to get used to.
if your not going to go with tires over 36" i would check out lock-rights they slip in place of your factory spider gears. and for the price of a locker you could get lock rights both front and rear. and with a lock right if you dont like it then you can just pull it out and swap the spiders back in, (you dont have to pull the whole carrier and ring gear to put it and out.)

I would recommend limited slip or a manual locker. LS works with clutches and fines you that extra traction when you slip but runs normally on the street. A manual locker locks completely when you hit a switch. No clutch spin up or wear out.

I'm lookin at gettin one of these for my 2WD truck once the clutches finally wear out. My factory H9 LS still is functioning great for the street, but they seem to lock both wheels together when it rains here, which is 200+ days of the year. Lol! So I might just replace the clutches when they give out. My odometre currently says about 458,000 kms (285,000 miles or so) so it might be today or it might be years down the road the clutches give out. Lol!

I installed a Ford racing LS when I did my rebuild. I've had a lot of luck with it in rain snow and mud in my RWD. If I were going to do it on a 4wd I think I'd drop the extra cash for the manual lock. But I don't think its worth it on a RWD
Limited slip will probably be good enough. I have a 3.08LS in my truck and it's still working GREAT. And it helps a lot on the street too, in the rain my tires are never spinning or anything, then take it off road into some mud and there's nice amounts of grip available.
Plus it's always nice to have both tires spin
