Default Rake Me Over The Coals.

So I pulled one of the most bone-headed moves a couple days ago. I'm prepared to take full criticism. I drove to a buddy's place about 2.5 miles away.... and left my parking brake on. When I pulled up to his shop, I smelled my rear drums. They were hot to the touch, so I though "Ohh, they probably need an adjustment." I backed up the truck and got it in place to jack it up. Right when I went to put the parking brake on... Oops!

Since then, I've noticed a slight amount of brake shudder when braking at highway speed. I'm thinking the rear drums may be out-of-round? Let me know if there's something else that could be damaged by my absent mindedness. Thanks!

A real bummer about that. But I will admit it also happened to me once many years ago. I just replaced my brake shoes, they were due soon anyway, and I had no problems. Mine were so hot they were smokin'. Just try replacing the shoes.

Just the shoes you say? I'll give it a shot. That will be cheaper than drums too. I'm not sure if that's what's causing the shuddering, but they're most likely due for a change anyway.

It most likely is the shoes. Some shops have the ability to turn the drums but if you have warped them bad enough they need to be replaced.

True but they can get them close at least my brother in law used to when he did it. For 8 bucks I did not complain even if he found out he could not turn them.

I did that once pulling two dirtbikes and a fourwheeler and I've never had trouble towing them until I count hit 5ph uphill and I thought something was wrong with my tranny. What I came realize is that when I slept in my truck I had kicked it. Now I have a OCD everytime something doesn't seem right with the truck I pill that lever first haha

Bad news folks. My rear ABS light is on I'm thinking this could be a number of things.

We have ABS? Since when? I've never seen or felt them!

Low brake fluid level...worn pads...Grateful Dead concert flashback (last choice), to name a few possibilities. Then there's RABS Valve, but once you rectify that little "Homer Simpson" moment you had w/ the parking brake, it will probably go away.

When pads are worn, there is more brake travel. Fluid level in reservoir drops to compensate for that extra travel.
