Default Radio Replacement

My stock radio went bad. I thought someone told me once that you need a special tool to get the stock radio out. I'm guessing that's what the small holes are for on the sides? If that's true, is there another easy way to get it out, or where can I get this tool?

i have a 1990 f150 Lariat and all i did was pop the trim off, unscrew the four screws, took off the back plug-ins, replaced the new one, and screwed the four in. all i needed was a 8mm socket i think, or a T5 maybe. somewhere around in there. it is a bolt that screws in as well having a 'star' shaped screwdriver placement. didnt need anything special that i didnt already have. good luck

If you do need the tool, Wal-Mart has it in the car audio section for like two dollars.

If you have a plain wire coat hanger you can cut it and make two U shaped pieces and it will work. just make sure their long enough. about 4 or 5 inches should be good. It's what I used in my 96.

How does one get a single din back out of the stock hole? I can't see how to get behind it to push it out or something.

If u dont want to buy the special tool just use plain wire coat hanger. same size as the diameter of the hole. when u push them in u can feel when its relasing the locks. on my 93 i use a smaller size diameter wire and i had to remove the glove box and get my hand behind it to relase the locks on both sides.thats way to get a wire the same size as the hole its better, wire works the same as the tool.
