Do it outdoors if you do. That amount of flammable fluid out of container is a little dicey. I have a story about that. You don't want to hear it. But the moral of the story is,"**** happens!"

Default Cleaning Intake

Exec, that's exactly what I did (mixture of kerosene, small amount of gas and brake cleaner). I purchased a tub (HPDP, same as a gas can) for $10 bucks at the local hardware store. Filled it enough to cover the intake and let 'er soak. After soaking overnight I used a bottle brush and a screwdriver to reach some of the difficult spots. Lower intake came out really good. The upper has some areas you just can't get to but it's certainly better than it was.

After cleaning the intake I emptied the remaining fluid into my parts cleaning bucket.

I would just use the cleaner with a brush or something but there are some places back in there that just can't be gotten to hence the bucket o kero

so what's this story meski? got scars from it? lol

Nope. But my best friend burnt himself over 50% of his body. Was put into a medically induced coma for almost a year. Was working across the garage from a space heater. Got a new garage & crap load of new tools out of it. Unfortunately, his hand can't hold a wrench anymore. Fingers don't bend. Keep an eye on your hot water heater too.
Pick yourself up one of these. They work great:

that's a real shame... I'm sorry to hear that at any rate I would try to put the bucket o' kero somewhere unenclosed and away from anything important

and I would like to see you clean my upper intake with that paintbrush
