It’s on a 1996 f150 5.8L 351W(vin H), I’m trying to change the ignition module but I can’t find the right socket for it, all the sockets that fit in the hole are too small for the bolt but then the one that looks like it would fit the bolt doesn’t fit into the hole of the module to take it off, please advise.
Cheap quality sockets have thicker walls which increase the outside diameter to remain strong enough not to break. You will need to find a high quality deep well socket with thin walls.
I bet it takes the same SPECIAL tool that you need to remove and reinstall the ignition module on the older trucks(1991 and older) that had the ignition module on the side of the distributor. My local NAPA had one on hand. The size is 7/32" or I think 4.5 MM. If you can't find the special tool buy a cheap deep socket and grind the outside down.
Thanks for the help yall, it turned out to be a 5.5mm or 7/16th but the plastic was a little warped so I couldn’t fit the socket in, I ended up breaking the old module but that’s ok, the new one fit fine
