Default Question.....

Anyone know the purpose of the fitting/bracket/tang on the passenger side end of the inner tie rod/drag link? This is the tie rod from the pitman to the passenger side rod end/knuckle.

It seems some are tacked to the rod and some are clamped with a pinch bolt system.

Some replacement units have them, some do not and some are removed.

Just curious as to why the factory would have this piece there.

Thanks.

That's where the steering stabilizer is bolted on when the truck is equipped with one. One can also be added.

Thanks Sean. I would have never guessed that function due to it being so far to the end of the rod on the right side where the rod end goes. I saw one picture of a stabilizer that bolted at the frame just inboard of the pitman arm and then to more middle of the link/rod. Must have been an aftermarket or maybe a 3/4 ton set up.
With this tang piece (or what ever it's called) at the right end of the rod and pointing to the right wheel hub with it long end over the tie rod end joint, I was wondering if it was some sort of protective piece or left turn stop or something to that end. Wouldn't have guessed in a million years it was for a stabilizer. Go figure. LOL
Thanks again. Do you have any photos of a stabilizer hooked up to that piece?

just to make sure, we're talking about the fitting on the end of this unit opposite of the rod end joint.

Sorry Sean, I'm not real savy with posting pics. It was of a MOOG inner tie rod and it has the "tang" on the opposite end of the ball joint that attaches to pitman arm. They, as others, seem to offer two versions....and two costs LOL....one with this feature/part and one without.
I've tried to find pictures of trucks with the steering stabilizer/damper installed utilizing this tang for mounting. Could only find aftermarket units and mostly 250's or 350's. My 150 has the tang but doesn't have a damper. Probably not even required with the 31x10.5's (stock was 265 75r).
Thanks again Sean, I'm just getting up to speed on my truck and learning all I can so I can take care of the ol' girl and maybe with some education, help others.
