i wired my truck so that i dont need the key but i did do one thing extra and it led to a funny incident with a person trying to steal it. i have 3 switches and 1 pushbutton 1 for the accessories 1 for the ignition and 1 for the fuel pump then the pushbutton for the starter solinoid. the key thing with my truck is that i have the fuel pump upside down so you have to actually turn it off for it to turn the fuel pump on. the guy that tried to steal it never even made it out of the parking lot be4 the carb ran out of fuel lol lets just say .... he got caught. i laughed all the way home that day and even now thinking back but going switches and buttons does run the risk or making it easier to steel your truc/car. either way remember this. Locks are for honest people if they really want it they can get it very easily just takes some comon sence i do like the new systems that require a type of device to be within 25 yards for the vehicle to run though i think some of the new nisans have something like that but i am not sure

if you mount your push button in the dash all you need to do is run two number 12 wires out to your starter solenoid. hook one wire on the post that is connected directly to the battery. this will provide power. there should be two little posts sticking out the front of the solenoid. one of them will have a small wire hooked to it. this is your ignition wire. replace it with the other wire going to your push button. that's all there is to it. for anti theft you can put a simple on/off toggle switch on one of the two wires you just installed. you can hide this under the dash and the push button will not work without turning the toggle on first. bear in mind you won't be able to start the truck with your key anymore but it will still do everything else

I do remember reading a thread on the jeep grand Cherokee Laredo forum *(girlfriend has a jeep) that had something to do with this. the 'chip' (transponder) is inserted into a fake key(dummy key, anything you normally carry). Like the new nissans, you just have to have the key (transponder) in your pocket for the button to start the truck. (if the transponder is not sensed, the truck will not start.
