Well Jimmy....... we're just going to see if after 9842 posts you got one right!!

By the way... thanks! I've gotten a number of suggestions and they were way off!

(Who ever heard of the air pressure in Florida being different than that in Detroit, so the MAP sensor needs to be changed!)

An argument for Denver Colorado, however Detroit sets at 581 Ft. above sea level at the river...and it has to do w/ air "density".

HEAR YE! HEAR YE!
JIMMY WAS RIGHT!
Thank you!!

I was able to insert a small bladed screwdriver between the gap and operate the EGR valve.. By moving the piston up, the engine sputtered and died.. by moving it up and down and a little WD-40, it seems to be working correctly.
Do you suggest a dismantling and cleaning? What about the IAC, clean as well?? Performance has always been good up till this episode..
Again thanks! Lastly, well the addition of the cold air inductions system add to it's breathing and performance?

A buddy of mine at a local repair shop told me a customer of his came in with a lousy running ford and the tech before replaced the MAP sensor saying it was an atmospheric pressure problem.. He said, look at the globe, you'll see Detroit is much higher than Florida, therefore the pressure is different!! Still draws a chuckle!!
They did fix the car and had the local authorities go check on the other tech's shop!

My buddy completely missed the stuck EGR!!
Again, thanks!

Holy crap! Somebody write that down! I finally nail one before my 10,000th post!

Yes. Check the port way's where it mounts on the intake too, for carbon buildup. Also check the EGR's diaphragm's integrity to make sure it doesn't leak. By all means service the IAC too.

Personally I don't recommend an 'alleged" CAI set up for your year (or my 87') as we are MAP sensored rather than MAF sensored. MAP uses Manifold pressure to help determine Air to fuel mix. It has no idea what actual "flow" is.

You will tend to lean out, increasing combustion chamber temp unnecessarily. The ECU is already demanding 14.68:1 air to fuel ratio, which isn't too terribly far from "ping threshold" to begin with.

Personally, if I'm going to increase C/C temps, I want a better return for it. Like a base timing bump. I help's to leave a bit of fuel buffer for that. It's a balancing act. Air/ Fuel/ timing/ combustion chamber temps.
