Default Power window motor

Hey fellows,
I have a 1996 F-150 XLT standard cab 5.0. The original window motor on the drivers side finally dies. The part number is F6LA-14A366-AB. Can't find one used or a replacement. I called Ford in Detroit and was told it has been obsolete for years. I was given 2 other numbers for replacements (1) F6TZ-1523395-AA and (2) F6TZ-15233V95-AARM but were told they were obsolete as well hahaha. The young lady in Parts there told me that H2MZ-99233V94-C SHOULD fit. Before I pull the trigger and buy one that she suggested I wanted to see if anyone has had to swap out motors in the '96 XLT with my original part number and if so, what did you use?

PS: for the record, I have tried two aftermarket motors from Dorman that were GUARANTEED to work...but they didn't hahaha.

Thanks in advance

I know most replacements are going to usually be Dorman anyway, but are you trying to replace JUST the motor or the entire regulator? I'd imagine that the whole shebang might be easier to find?

Hey Lenn,
Thanks brother for replying. Its just the motor. Everything else is good.
I got two Dorman and they swore they were correct replacements but neither worked at all hahaha. Kinda at my wits end hahaha.
I have done nation wide online searches. I did find two of the used replacements that Ford said were obsolete also..but they wanted $225 each...$30 to ship them and no guarantees.
Leave it to me to have the one 28 year old truck you can't get parts for hahaha.

Have you tried Rockauto or Ebay Motors or LMC Truck? I get most if not all of my parts from Rockauto. If they don't have them, LMC Truck has it. I haven't gotten anything from Ebay, but they are worth the shot. I have an 89'.

Yeah...I tried them all. I buy a lot from all 3 but no one has it either. They have a few they say will fit but Ford told me it had to be either my original part number, 2 of the obsolete replacements or MAYBE a H2MZ-99233V94-C. (if Nothng else I'll try one of those).
I have found a few originals online but they want anywhere from $185 to $339 plus S&H ...not gonna happen hahaha. Apparently these must be rare. Guess I'll just wait and keep looking hahaha.

What exactly is wrong with your current window motor? A common failure point with those motors is the internal plastic gear stripping, Dorman 747-412 is a repair kit for that.
If the whole motor does need to be replaced, Cardone 82-398 is a new alternative to Dorman, and 42-398 is a remanufactured replacement, which probably has the best chance of fitting, since it is still OEM on the outside.

Gonna say, that is about the most common motor in the world
Fits everything from a 62 Lincoln to a 78 Granada to your 96 truck
I could have 3 at three parts stores quick
Only ones that were much different were Bronco rear window motors (high torque)
You can fix those broken drive parts with high side R12 AC caps

Thanks brother for the info. That's what I was thinking but I guess the places I spoke with were just trying to make a buck and had me believing they were super rare. I've done a lot working on this old gal but it's my first go around with window motors hahaha...unfamiliar waters.

Everybody is looking for a buck these days it seems
That motor is a deal at 54 bucks and a hose at 150
The labor is about 1.1 hours to replace the motor
Your 96 truck might need to have 1/2 inch holes drilled in the door at the divots to access the motor bolts
