Default Power Steering Whine?

Ok so I drive a lifted 93 F-150 and whenever I turn the wheel it whines, it drives me nuts. I was wondering if this is a sign that my power steering pump could be going out?

Mine does it worse when it's low on power steering fluid. Check the level.

Are you running power steering fluid on yours?

All the old fords that have the plastic powersteering pumps resivores I have had problem of them whining loud when I run power steering fluid.

I started running ATF in them (my 94 explorer, 88 F150, dad's 89 F250, his previous 86 F150, and will on the trucks that are down and trucks I get that have this style pump) and I don't have any whine at all.

I have no idea if this is what you are suppose to do but I have ran it in multiple trucks and never had a problems with it that was caused by that (I do have a leak in my explorer but that is for a different reason).

All the trucks on the farm use ATF instead of power steering fluid and I don't know about the wine but it hasn't caused any problems.

Ya like I said I only run on the older trucks. My mom's 97 expedition and my 02 I don't nor do I the Chevy. I just heard before on another forum to use ATF and that is what I have used to get rid of whines.

Once a Ford pump runs low once it will always wine. Lucas power steering additive will probably stop it.

My old pump didn't whine as much when I swapped it over to Valvoline Type F ATF. I tried using cheap Type F fluid and it whined with that, so try using a better quality fluid and see what you get. My new pump (Atsco/Duralast) doesn't whine at all.

These pumps don't use power steering fluid, they use Type F. My Saginaw pump uses Dextron/Mercon.
