Question Power estimate?

Okay, I currently run an 87 half ton, 5.0, 4x4 4spd, 3.55gears. I want a moderately fast "race" truck. My goal is between 350 and 400 horse to the wheels. I've got a good price on a 351 from a 91. I was thinking about the trick flow 205cc twisted wedge heads and the trick flow intake ported, with 3inch exhaust all the way down from some long tube headers. If run this setup will I achieve my goal and about how much will I be pushing? And second question, I was really hoping to avoid machine work for this build but the trick heads require the correct wedge head pistons, is .050 or .060 too much of a bore? And what are some good heads that dont require aftermarket pistons?

You might as well stick to your 5.0. There's allot of stuff you can do to that. Id put a Stroker kit in it and bore it 30 over. New heads intake exhaust. Cam. Either switch to maf or a Carb set up. Id go maf and get a good tune. Put 410s and a lsd in the back.

302 has 250,000 miles on it and is only rated between 150 and 185 horse stock. Ive got an intake and hi-flows for exhaust on 2inch pipes, and i really dont think I'm even close to 210 horse. 302 is gone, its been decided.

for that kind of power to the rear wheels you're going to need 600hp out of the engine... 30% loss due to driveline.

thats going to require a lot of cash. I'd say the 351 with a stroker bottom end into a 408 or bigger. .030 bore MAXIMUM. bigger heads than the 205 and a roller cam at that.

Max ECU mods and then you're going to need Transmission rebuild, mods and converter and if you have 4x4 transfer case mods and axle upgrades to handle the power...

you start pushing 400hp out of an engine and stick the tire you'll break all kinds of stock stuff.... transmission, Axles, drive shafts and it goes on and on....

you'd be looking at 5,000-7,000 for the engine and about that into the truck for 400hp at the tires.... you really want to spend that much?

Then I'll haft to stop when i get to 350 at the wheels, but yes. I dont mind putting 5g's into my truck... 7 might be pushin it. There a few a cummins and dirtymaxes in town that need to be taken down a peg or two by a ford gas engine lol

Stout bottom and and either a good turbo or gobs of nitrous... you build it for a 200hp shot of go-fast juice that will work but you'll need a good steel crank and good rods...

the stock cast crank wont handle but a few hits of 200hp juice then it exits stage right in about 3 pieces...lol
