Possible fuel level issue
Hi Guys, I bought my first Ford Truck and am glad to find this site. My '96 F150 runs great, but has a small problem I'm hoping you guys will know how to fix quickly. The truck has dual tanks. I have gas in both, I have been running on the rear tank (according to the dash mounted switch). When I switch to the front tank, the gauge will drop to empty when I know there is at least 10 gallons in it. Is it the dash switch?, fuel pump? or ?
Also, is the "twin I beam front end" difficult to rebuild? I'd like to replace all the rubber in the front along with new shocks. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem on my 93 f150 . the gauge only works right when i use the rear tank . and whe i switch to front the gauge goes to empty . the problem its the level unit. most of the time the wires get broken or stock at one position. the only problem its that fuel pump and level unit are together in one pice . u have to buy a new fuel pump. think they are expensive.(mine its one pice) ur pump on front tank should work ok . just have to be carefull no to run out of gas. havent fix mine, what i do its to reset odom. every time i fill up my front tank and i know i can run about 250 miles before i have to refill again. hope to fix it this summer.
I have a '91 F150 and I have the same problem with the fuel gauges. The back tank gauge works, but the front tanks always reads empty. Also, when I run on the front tank, it also pumps out of the rear tank. Seems both tanks feed at the same time. So, do I have two problems, or is there one fix?
