the 97 ford suv has a 8.8 with a L.S. and comes with disc brakes

Just put the Trac lok in. You won't regret it. Don't bother with the fancy after market stuff.

posi refers to GM's Positrack system which is a limited slip, the lockers are referred to as govlocs or noslips.

i was planning on putting an ebay trac loc in my f150 but i don't know what all it requires. if im keeping the same gears is it just a bolt in or do i have to re-set the backlash?

I've got a line on brand new cobra carriers if your interested. There 31 spline like your truck and they have the carbon fiber clutches. I just rebuilt my entire rear end for my drag race project (in my profile). I used that carrier, polished and lightned 3.90's, ARP main cap studs and ring gear bolts, ford racing axle girdle, and alloy usa forged axles. Everything went together pretty well.
