Default Ported Vacuum Switch

Hi all, I have been working on an 87 F150 5.8, changed the thermostat and managed to break the vacuum switch mounted on the housing. I was just curious as to what purpose this switch has. What does it do. Also, I've been working on getting the cooling system put back together, will it leak coolant out of this switch now that its broken?

I cant get a new switch til tomorrow and I'd like to at least get it back together to the point that I just have to replace the switch.

Thanks

It shouldnt leak, alot of those switches control emissions devices and some for warmup idle, just find the feed vacuum line and plug it.

Thanks, thats pretty much what I wanted to know. I wasn't sure what it controlled and if its unnecessary I'll just plug it. The smog pump on the thing has already been disabled by the previous owner and I have no intentions of hooking it up anyway. Thanks!
