Exclamation Please help me!

So I went away for two days and when I last drove my truck everything was fine, it felt a little sluggish, but that's alright. THen this morning, at around 40 degrees weather wise, the truck started fine, all of a sudden started revving up and up and up. Then all of a sudden it started sputtering and then rebounded back to the high revving. I cautiously put the truck into drive and all of a sudden all the problems were gone. When I put the truck in park after driving to school the truck idled fine. What is going on???
PS it is 1995 F150 v8 5.0 with 279,000 miles.

Do they have a choke? It's fuel injected so I'm 99% positive theres no choke.

yea mine is fuel injected to it might be called some other fancy name but it does the same job i have a 93 with the 5.0 in it when i start the truck on a cold morning the rpms will be high like 1500 and after it runs for about 30 to 45 seconds it will drop down to normal rpms. try cleaning the egr valve might be clogged up

Yeah, mine usually does that on cold mornings, the weirdest part of everything today was the sputtering part, and then it was normal after I drove it around a little bit.

There are sensors for cold and mid temp. It may not be showing a check engine light, but there is a good chance you have a bad temp sensor. Put it on a code reader if you have one (if not Advanced Auto will {in the hopes of selling you something }) and see what that shows you.

My 92 had a similar problem (minus the sputter) and it was a sensor. If I recall, it was the TPS sensor.
