Was drivin the other day and my speedometer went out and I could smell plastic burning underneath my dash. I checked then fuse panel the fuse that control the electronic shift lock, speedometer and a few other things was popped, I replaced it and popped again does anybody have any idea what could be shorting it out. My truck is a 95 Eddie Bauer 4x4

Start tracing wires! You have a hot wire shorting to ground somewhere. I would look behind your dash cluster first.

See what you can see from underneath, then dig further. Like 7700 said you have a direct short to ground. It could be a damaged wire or possible that the cluster itself burned up, if you can't find a wire try unplugging the cluster and see if the fuse still pops.

I'm a big on wires and stuff like that but what do you mean by direct short to ground, is it touching metal or another exposed wire or somethin?

Yes, anything metal on the truck essentially is a ground. If a "hot" wire chaffed on metal exposing the strands it gives the electricity a direct path to ground and pops the fuse. Or a "hot" and a "neutral" wire rubbed together. Or the circuitry in the cluster fried and is shorting out. Corrosion in a connector can also provide a path to ground in certain cases. You just need to inspect for anything odd, if you see nothing, unplug the cluster. With it unplugged if the fuse stays intact then its the cluster, if it pops then you have a wiring issue. There are ways to test wiring using a meter but you said your not to big on wiring so Im trying to keep it simple for ya. I am no where near GA so..... sorry, I can't come drink your beer and give you a hand.

Also, you said you smelled burning in the dash. In my experience with electrical/electronics anything that shorts out and burns up holds on to the stink for some time so.... you may be able to use your nose to find the source of your problem
