Default Parking brake cable spring too long

I am doing the brakes on my 1996 F150 and also doing the rear parking brake cables. I ordered the parts from rockauto about 5 months ago and just getting to it now.

I started with the drivers side.

The spring on the end of the cable is almost 2x too long. No way it will work.

The cable is a Wagner BC132089. Rear Left Brake Cable, w/o AMBULANCE PACKAGE.

I thought that was the right part but I guess it isn't.

Am I missing something?

To add some mystery, the passenger side cable has just as long spring and it is a different brand than the drivers I am trying to install. The passenger defiantly says W/O Ambulance package. The drivers door has a sticker that says "this vehicle is not equipped with the ford ambulance preparation package, etc...."

When I pull the cable and it compresses the spring, the solid compressed spring is still too long to fit into the drum correctly.

If you want specific help, you have to post specific info. What's the brand & PN of each new cable? Post links to the RockAuto pages for your truck & what you bought. And finish filling in your signature with ALL your truck's details.

Rear left - Wagner BC132089. Rear Left Brake Cable, w/o AMBULANCE PACKAGE
Rear right - Raybestos BC94490 Rear Right; without Ambulance Package

Rockauto doesn't have the listing for the Wagner cable anymore.

Order confirmation

Yes, I think those are correct. Refer to the PNs & links in this caption:

(phone app link)

But they will not fit right unless the whole brake assembly is installed correctly, and it doesn't look like you have it right so far. Study this & the NEXT several:

The groove in the backing plate pad needs to be polished out, or welded up & ground true.

I welded and ground down the contact pads.

I assembled everything from the parking brake pedal back and it fit.

Those are very rough, and you still don't have any grease. Read those captions.

I smoothed them and there is dielectric grease on the ledge pads.
