Painting
The above are all good points. I just got done having a classic Mustang painted. My opinion is that the biggest single expense is going to be the quality of the paint you choose. The paint & clearcoat by themselves can cost over a grand if you're going for a paint job that will last another 15 or 20 years. The biggest investment in time is good body work. Likewise, the biggest unknown is what's under your current paint (unless you've owned it the whole time!). Also, are you going to paint over the current paint or strip it off? If you're like me, I have some bare spots on my F-150 so those will have to be filled and feathered so the new paint on top looks smooth. The actual painting can be done in just a day or two once everything else is ready to go.
Also, the more you do yourself, the less it impacts the bank account. Taking off emblems, weatherstripping, and mouldings yourself can save a little. If you want to try your hand at body work, that will save you a lot of labor cost.
Hope that helps!

For a factory clean look paint job, you are prob looking at $3,000. And also have to consider if you want the inside doorjams done, ect ect. They will ask you that stuff and it all adds up.
I believe most shops charge a lil extra for trucks and vans due to surface area being larger. Whatever you do, avoid Maaco like the plague. There's a reason they are the cheapest....
