Default Paint for tailgate logo???

Hi I'm going to get my 89 F150 painted soon and I'm trying to do the little stuff. The F O R D chrome type logo on the tailgate has gone south and everyone wants $100 for new ones! OK I'm cheap! But is there an acceptable way or cheaper route to go on this? Thanks!

Strip it with acetone and then paint the entire thing. Get Q-tips and acetone to remove the paint of the letters and then clear it.

Check my gallery for pics of mine.

Hi LTT,
Nice work, but I'm talking about solid letters about 3 inches high on my tailgate. The whole letter will have to be painted with something that resembles chrome hopefully! Is there a paint that makes this possible??? Thanks!

How about painting them? Have you looked for them online? you should be able to get them off of ebay for a good price.

Hi Ty,
Well thats what I'm asking is if anyone knew of a decent paint I could use for this application? I guess a 2 part epoxy would work if I could get a small quantity of the right color. Just trying to shorten the learning curve and learn from someone elses experience! Thanks!

I would sand them pretty good and wipe them down. Then spray whatever paint you choose becuase I really doubt there is any difference over one brand and the other, atleast from what I've seen. Then use a coat of clear or two to give it a nice shine. I'll get the name of the clear I used but I'm not going to look right now.

Dude , If I was you, i would find a junkyard or "Pick n Pull" if you have one, and pull off the same emblems from another Truck of that same year and model. Theres bound to be a junkyard around. And they should let you do it cheap. If it doesnt work. Try a swap meet. Car Show. Or if all else fails call up Wal-Mart for a special order! They own the world!

I just noticed your signature, that is the best acronym usage for Chevrolet I have ever seen!
