Default Overdrive button light

I've got a '95 xlt 4X4 and have an issue with the light on the push button/shifter for my OD. I do use it, but sometimes forget if it's on or off. How do I check or fix the light?

I think the VSS sensor is responsible. It is the sensor located on the rear differential. However, I am not sure of the diagnostics. Maybe one of the automatic transmission guys can chime in.

Same diagnosis as usual, check for codes.

Thanks for the input. The light seems to come on when in Park (sorry that I have an auto) and goes out when in drive. Are we talking about a complete shifter change or just the button? It's not affecting the running of the truck, but more of a pain in the butt.

If the button it self works at all times. Ie.. the truck stays out of overdrive when the button is pushed. Then it would be the light. In that case if it bothers you just change out the button.
