Default Over drive

Hey,
I hear people talking how overdrive makes the truck seems sluggish. What exactly does od do? Keeping it on 24/7 is better with fuel?

Thank you

Overdrive is the next gear after the one you're in. It's esentially shifting up so that the engine can cruise at a lower speed. I believe.

Yeah it makes it sluggish because (at least in my truck) there isn't much low end power.
Leave it on unless you're in the hills or curves or whatever. Turning it off keeps the transmission in one gear, and also gives you some engine braking. prevents the transmission from hunting for gears through hills, accelerations and decelerations.

Final drive is 1:1, the driveshaft spins as fast as the engine. Overdrive means the driveshaft is spinning faster than the engine.

Unless you are towing, keep the OD on. Better on fuel at highway speeds. Just means that the driven gear is spinning faster then the drive gear. For example every 3/4 of a turn the engine makes, the transmission will spin 1 full turn or 0.75:1 ratio which is the term overdrive.

I leave me on all da time. I turn it off if towing, and on really hilly terrain, but it'll shift itself as well

Unless I know I'm gonna be staying under 40 I have to keep my overdrive off. With the lift and bigger mud tires on stock gears and no recalubration yet my truck won't stay in overdrive but for a couple seconds anyways.
