Resurrecting the old thread. The plastic piece he's referring to is the egr vacuum solenoid. I just reinstalled that part and my vacuum system for the egr after having it blocked off for some time. Now the truck has the same miss at light acceleration that this guy had. I'm looking for the answer too!

Wow my old post pops back up. Sorry to say, never found the solution either. I gave up with it because I was throwing money into parts I never really needed. Figured someone would post the solution...I know there are many others with the same problem.

:/ well I regapped my plugs within spec, disconnected the battery to clear the memory, erased my old engine codes, and double checked all the vacuum lines. I haven't had a chance to really drive it since then, but I guess I'll find out if anything helped tomorrow.

I am still waiting for the answer from way back then. No one seems to know.

My father said that he was having the same problem with his ford taurus and all the shops pointed it out as electrical. Well after new wire, coil, cap and rotor, sparkplugs etc...etc. He still had the same problem. Toke it to a redneck that works on cars for beer and the man said it was the thermostat and the temp sensor bumping heads. That he will put in a new thermostat for a twelve pack and if this doesnt solve the problem he will give six back. Well, the thermostat solved the problem so my father through in a free carton of cigs to go along with the twelve pack.

I tried the thermostat and here I am still asking for the solution!!!

I already have a new o2 sensor. And no I didn't see results from my work the other day. It helped but not much. I'm thinking it could be a clogged line coming either into or out of the egr. For now I disconnected the vacuum line and plugged it again so it'll ride normal. I'll mess with it more this weekend. Thinking about trying a seafoam treatment to clear it out.

Default Old problem never solved.

Just a thought here: did anybody wash out the throttle body with the spray cleaner? No?, I thought so! There are sensors in there that have to be cleaned periodically. You will see a lot of black soot in there, and that does not help performance one bit. You have nothing to lose, just the headache.....Hope this helps.....Ernie

Cleaned my throttle body and removed my intake and cleaned it really good. Still no luck.... Some times I think its in the torqe converter and just seems like its in the engine. Thought about taking it to the ford dealership and let them take it for a spin.

Last time I was there they tried to talk me into trading my truck in for a new one (Cash for Clunkers). WTF!!! I asked the salesman how many vehicals has he been through in the past twenty years and he said at least five. That after afew years, They lose thier value. I asked if he still owed money on them when he traded for a newer one. He said yes, Transfered what I still owe on them to my new vehical loan. I said i bought this truck new in 91 and have not needed to make a truck payment since I payed it off in 95 and your gonna say its wise to trade in a old truck for a new one.
