Default The old no spark

Well after diagnosing a bad fuel regulator, it seems i noe have a no spark issue. This has happened before, but getting more frequent. I would just move some wires around the coil, the resistor attached to it and she would fire. So, I replaced the coil pigtail with one from Ford. Now I'm back to a no spark. Put a timing light on it and no light when cranking. Got 12v across the coil and bolts go to ground. I'm thinking coil of course, but I just put a new MSD coil, cap and wires on last year. Is there anything else to fire the coil?

Well I replaced the PIP in the distributor. Ran fine it warmed up, then studdering and having a hard time idling. So I decided to play with the timing. Moved the distributor and it was like the I blew a fusible link. Move it back, electric restored. Screwed around with that for 2 hours, didn't get any where. So I put the old stator back in, no start. New stator, disco'd battery, seems ok. I know timing must be off, pinging worse than ever, pulled SPOUT no pinging. Can't check timing properly. Timing mark on block is at 11 o'clock. At TDC (verified) mark on balancer is at 7 o'clock. So tomorrow is a chain and balancer. I'll post up results.

Well I think I have a problem. Got to the timing chain, when I line the marks up at 12 and 6, 12 on the small gear, I'm no where near TDC and kinda close to #1 on the rotor. Something tells me someone has been in there. So the marks at 12 and 6 are correct? Went through the haynes manual, believe it or not, nothing for the chain except to check for stretch. Anyone got any input?

You're in the wrong chapter, general engine overhaul procedures. You need chapter 2 part B V8 engines, section 11 timing cover and chain- removal and installation.

Yea I pulled a newb move . I was looking at cylinder 2 thinking it was number 1. Well it's like that on chevy's and AMC V-8's. Balancer marks are still off though. Just got it together didn't have time to look at a new one. 3 broken bolts, and back to the parts store to get a Tstat gasket and temp sender. ALso put on a new power steering pump.

I would love to. But as I said the mark on the balancer is way off. I can verify TDC with a pencil in the cylinder, but the mark on the balancer is at 7 o'clock. I'll just make a new mark at true TDC and go from there. I can't get a good enough pic of a balancer to see where the timing mark is in relation to the keyway. On mine when at TDC, the timing mark on the chain is at 12 o'clock, the keyway is at 12 o'clock. The timing bracket is at 11 o'clock. Mark on balancer is at 7. Also my timing bracket doesn't show before and after, just says "timing mark", stamped on it.
So if the balancer was right the way it is, I would have to check timing from under the truck.
On a side note, at true TDC, the rotor is at number one, about 11 o'clock in the dizzy, maybe a little past, which is where it shows in the book and my ALLDATA.
