Eh, can't think of any reason why not to go with the high-flow pump - especially given the assumed wear and increased tolerances on a 23-year-old motor.

Suggest to follow-up with a good quality filter that can handle the additional flow.

While this might make since (more oil = better lubrication) it might not work the way one thinks.

One problem I have seen it flooding the head with oil and the drains do not have the capacity to let the oil back into the pan fast enough.

Might also think that with the added quantity of oil, some of those old gaskets might start to leak more than ever or for the first time.

Good luck.

Just make sure when you install it (if you are doing it yourself) that you tack weld the pickup no matter what pump you buy

You don't use a high pressure pump on a stock engine because it takes away horsepower for no gain.

Are you sure the oil pump is not working?

The 1987-91 F-Series oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster with the tachometer is notorious for not working, many people install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge.

The instrument cluster without the tachometer does not seem to have this problem.

Anyway, just giving you heads-up on the faulty factory oil pressure gauge for 1987-91 F-150's.

When I swapped my instrument cluster (no tach) w/ a donor truck instrument cluster (w/ tach), I had to go back and get the donor trucks oil P/U sender unit. & swap that to, for the oil gauge to read correctly. Before swapping, the gauge read very low regardless of my oil pressure being more than adequate. There are different resisters in the units that have to correspond to the gauge. Anyway, check the oil pressure to make sure it's the pump & not a bad sender. Anytime my oil pumps have failed, the gauge would fluctuate on the low side, like it's prime was dropping in & out.

I think the OP meant high volume, not pressure. I can't see any reason to not put a high volume pump in, you don't want a high pressure pump or a high pressure/volume pump - there are 3 different types. If you going with a Milodon or equivalent high VOLUME pump, you should be good to go, the pressure will remain the same so your sender should be fine, and having more volume of oil flowing is never a bad thing, I've not heard of inadequate returns to not be able to handle a high volume pump.
