Default Oil pan question

Had a much better look under my new truck today (got up to 35 so it was outside time!) and discovered a few things I need to address.

Noted there were a couple of nasty spots (no bigger than a couple of quarters) where oil was seeping from the oil pan. Also noticed that someone had either half-*** installed the oil pan gasket or tightened it down so much had squeezed much of it out.

Am guessing this might be the second oil pan on the truck (is a 93) but not sure. Pan is panted a gray color - is this factory or were they black or something else?

With the slave cylinder leaking the tranny is going to have to come out - can the oil pan be removed with the tranny out without lifting the front of the motor?

Thanks ahead.

I thought so, but who knows....sounds like it needs to be replaced though.

Hard to say without knowing what engine you have....

But I suspect that it will have to be lifted at the very least.
I swapped out one in a 94 with a 4.9 and had to hoist the engine as far as possible(egr kissing the firewall). But it was a breeze and only took a few hours.

Mine is gray. Bought a replacement that is black but there is no where to put the oil dipstick? Does the dipstick tube go to the oil pan or to the engine block?

Have the same engine (4.9). Is problem with removal the tranny getting in the way or the oil pickup tube getting in the way?

Big steel cross member that sits a few inches below your pan. I removed the transmission to cross member bolts and the engine mount bolts and lifted as far as I could. It was still a very tight fit, but I had just enough room.
Since it is such a tight fit, it is easy to knock crud from the engine etc. into the new pan as you are trying to wigglethe new one in, so if you are able to make sure your underside is on the clean side, it would ensure a clean install.
Also, don't cheap out....get the good fel-pro one piece blue gasket. You'll be happy you did. It has helper pins that hold the gasket in place while you install the pan.

I see - so clearance problem is with the edge of the pan getting under the main caps...
