I am not sure of the oil capacity for th 5.0, your owners manual should tell you. Most here would recommend Motorcraft oil filters. As for the oil, most major brands are acceptable. You may want to consider synthetic or synthetic blend oils. They are a little more expensive, but should help extend the life of your engine.

I am sure other members will have their own opinions.
Good luck!

^^ooooh!! good choice!

when I can afford the above$$$^^^ I do that.......otherwise I use Quaker State or Penzoil '10W-40 for high mileage trucks' with a Purolator filter.

when you purchase the 5 quart it's cheaper than purchasing each individual quart. You're 5.0 should take 5 quarts.

after draining the oil from the pan...
reinstall the pan bolt...
remove the filter under the motor nearer to the driverside suspension...
^be sure to have a good junker rag or mucho paper towels...
drain the filter into the same container that is holding your old oil...
lub the rubber gasket on the new filter with a pinch of new oil...
install filter with firm hand tightened feel...
pour in 4 quarts of oil into the oil inlet pipe...
start the motor for 15 seconds...
check oil level after it sits for about 30 seconds...
and fill to the 'FULL' mark on the dipstick.
FINISHED!

5 + 1 for filter, so get six qts, reg oil works fine, unless your engine is tight synthetic will find every leak.

Don't forget to run the truck for a couple of minutes (by this i mean something like 1-2 minutes) before you drain the oil. Warms the oil up and will help it flow. I use valvoline 300,000 mile guarantee, any of the above will work though. You may need a strap wrench to get your current oil filter off.

Well I always bought 6 just to have an extra. Sometimes I would use part of it, so buy 6 to be on the safe side.

Seafoam treat your engine first.
Put some more miles on it. (20+ mi.)
5 qts. Mobil Synthetic 1, w/ 1 qt. Lucas Synthetic oil stabilized (approx. 20%)
A Mobil 1, or other quality grade extended range filter.
That's how I roll. Everybody roll's a little different.
87' 302 w/ 87K miles.

See Link: https://www.f150forum.com/f33/how-se...-1991-a-31505/

(Some people swear 5 qt., some 6 qt. capacity/ whatever. Start w/ the qt. of Lucas Synth. stabilizer first, to make sure it gets in there. Lucas makes a conventional oil stabilizer too)
