Default O2 sensor??

Hey I was crawling under my truck the other day and reallized that my o2 sensor was not connected to anything. i have owned this truck for almost a year now and i have never messed with the sensor. the wires coming off of the sensor have acually been cut off. My question is what effect can this have on my truck and why am i not seeing a check engine light?
it is a 1994 f150xlt with a 5.0

thanks for your time,

Ben

Can't explain why the check engine light is not coming on. The oxygen sensor is part of the emissions system and should be connected for the truck to run properly. I am sure one of the mechanics here will be able to give you a better answer.

thats a very good question on the "c.e.l." which O2 is it? i think you said you have a 5.0, so there should be more than one. But i would probably fix it, if you have enough wire on either end you could splice it back together. i would use some proper butt connectors (the kind that are all metal not that yellow/blue/red plastic crap) and shrink wrap for each wire.

'94 should have only one oxygen sensor because it's OBDI. Without the oxygen sensor hooked up your truck won't run as well as it should and you won't get very good gas mileage. The check engine light won't always stay on with OBDI but your bulb could be burned out too.

Hey thanks for the replies, i thought that not having the o2 sensor would make my truck run like crap too but it runs fine and gas milage is actualy not that bad. i am going to get a new one and put it on to see if there are any changes.

thanks for your time,

Ben

If it runs well and gets good gas mileage, I'd be afraid to "fix it".
