Not-so Quick disconnect
I'm trying to change the fuel tanks on my 1994 F150. With the disconnect tool I've managed to get one of the lines off but am having no luck with the other. The tool wil fit on one side if I open it up, but won't rotate around the fitting to open the other side. I've used a lot of WD40 and a small screwdriver to loosen things up and after several attempt I'm having no luck. The fitting will slide on and off a little bit and seems to be loosened up. Can anyone help me with other suggestions? chas
I am having the same issue on my 1993. I was able to easily remove the line leading to the engine compartment but I am unable to remove the side leading to the fuel tank switching valve. And since this side is sandwiched between the frame rail and the forward fuel tank there is little room to maneuver. In addition it would be very difficult to get a tiny screwdriver in there along with half the removal tool. I was at the point of cutting down the fuel line and using a rubber hose with clamps as an attachment method for the new filter. But I dont really like this sloppy/shade-tree solution, besides I am unsure of the system pressure and the possibility of blowing a standard neoprene hose. I am aware of a company which sells replacement fuel line retaining clips but this doesnt solve the problem of removing the old filter to refit the new retaining clip. Any suggestions?
I posted the same exact issue and got good advice. Yes someone replaced those connections with clamps and high pressure hose. Someone else adviced that they ussed a NAPA filter that worked fine.

They can be a bear, but Ive never met one I couldnt get with a little patience (and Ive done at least 10 different ford trucks fuel filters). Try pushing in on the line before and during sticking the tool in. You have to really push hard on the tool and pushing the two lines together will relieve tension on the clips inside. May want to spray some carb cleaner/compressed air in there too, to remove any debris that could be keeping the clips from fully compressing.

The easy way is to first spray into the connector with brake clean to remove any dirt then spray some kind of lube.Then push the connector all the way into the seated position install the toll and pull the line off.If you poke around with a screw driver or pick and damage the spriing the connector may no come apart.
Same here. I change a filter that 3 other people could not on a customers truck. It was not easy but I got it with just the tool. Just have to make sure the tool is all the way in and just pull like hell. Moving it in all directions till it comes out. It will come out.
