No spark when computer harness connected
I recently purchased an 87 F150 2WD SuperCab with a 5.0L V-8 to work on with my son. We drove it home and immediately started taking it apart. We really didn't do much under the hood, except lots of pressure washing (clue?) When it came time to check out the motor, it wouldn't start. I found out we weren't getting any spark. I ended up replacing the distributor, with sensor, and the ignition control module. I verified the continuity of every one of the 6 wires on the TCM. I checked the primary and secondary impedance of the coil. Everything checked out OK, but no spark. To make a long story short, I discovered that I get good spark if the wiring harness is disconnected from the engine control module. As soon as I plug the harness in, spark goes away. Remember, this thing was running when I first brought it home. Any ideas? Could the ECM have died? Thanks
