Hello all and I apologize and thank you in advance. I searched the forum and found no problem like mine. I am not a mechanic. I can do preventive maintenance and am comfortable doing some swaps but I can't diagnose this problem so I will describe it as best I can.

I purchased my 93 F-150 on Monday. It is a 4x4 4.9L and has 256k miles. When I purchased the truck the starter would not disengage after starting the engine. I purchased a new starter and installed it and it seemed to fix the problem. I had to install a new serpentine belt yesterday as the old one was split and coming apart. Today I got in the truck and tried to start it. It would not turn over. I took the battery out and had it checked at advance and they said it was good but needed charged so I thought it might be the alternator. Put the charged battery in and hit the ignition and it sounds like the engine wants to turn but just won't. I had my wife try to start it and the pulleys all jerk and the belt goes taught but it will not roll. We pushed it and then popped the clutch and nothing. I have no idea what else to try. Can a bad alternator keep the engine from rolling? Is it possible the engine is seized? Can there be something wrong were the old starter would not disengage. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to add that it had ran fine all day until this evening.

It sounds like your engine is seized. Try to rotate the engine by hand and see if it moves. If it is seized, it could be from just trying to crank it over too much and flooding the cylinders with fuel. Liquid can't compress, so the pistons can't go anywhere. You could try to take the spark plugs out and see if there is an extreme amount of gas in the chambers.

Verify your start circuit. Battery to starter relay. Starter relay to starter. Verify the ground wires from the battery to its ground. Verify engine bonding to frame. All connections should be clean, tight, and NO corrosion.
