Hello all...I'm a new owner of a 1996 4x4 with the 5.0 V8.

Picked it up as a winter beater for $700. My plan was to drive it all winter and then get rid of it in the spring for something "nicer." One problem with that, I've been driving it for 2 days and really like it! SO now I've got the mod bug.

My plans are to sort it mechanically(I work at a BMW/Mercedes resto shop). It runs good, but the transmission hunts a bit at cruising speeds and sometimes downshifts too early. I'll probably do all fluids, brakes and rotors and fix the diff cover gasket. Are there any other preventative jobs that stand out on these that I should attend to right away?

Next, I'll do wheels and tires, maybe a leveling kit and then start on some rust repair. Also, we've got some nice leather seats from a 560SEL at the shop I might try to retrofit.

Anyway...here's a quick pic...I'll be around alot as I get going and try not to act too much like a stupid noob.

We welcome F150 noobs. Its too nice for a beater, problem is that beater will last a long time, trans fluid might help with the shifting, check 4x4 hubs and ujoints,

Tested the 4WD today. 5 inches of snow and unplowed roads were a breeze even with worn tires.

Might have the dreaded shudder, though. Trans didn't seem to like cruising at 35mph in 4H.

Yep...keeping her if I don't have any gigantic issues. A little concerned about the tranmission, but I haven't done a trans service yet or added any friction modifiers like Dr. Tranny.

I've got a 95 F150 supercab 4x4 with AT and it seems to kick in and out of OD quite a bit. Had the trans rebuilt about a year and a half ago, helped some, replaced the TPS and it helped a LOT. The 302 seems a bit underpowered, and has a tendency to downshift where I think it shouldn't, but overall it's a keeper. I still have to replace all the ujoints and there is something loose in the steering that I have not yet located, but other than that it's a great truck.
