Default newbie needs some help

Hello I'm new. I'd like to start off by saying great site! but here's my problem: the infamous bank 1 too lean and bank 2 too lean codes are on in my truck. My question is, is there 2 iat sensors? I borrowed the scan tool from work and it gives you second-by-second stats when you truck is running. the iat on the airbox was reading 73 degrees, but it was saying the intake air temp. was 197 degrees. and that, I think, is why it's running lean. So is there a 2nd iat sensor I'm missing? My egr system works (just fixed it) so that's not it, and I don't know how but it seems every topic i found when searching started talking about the infamous ford dual-tank problem. I don't know how that would make the engine run worse, but my truck is a shortbox with one tank so that's out of the question. Please help my inspection was due 4 days ago. Oh by the way I have a 1996 F-150 st. cab shortbox with the strait 6 and a 5sp.

There should only be one...how long has it been since the O2 sensors have been changed? You may need to do that as they could be sending the computer a false reading. Also, if/when you replace the O2 sensors unhook the battery for a minimum of 5 minutes to clear the memory then rescan for codes.

Ditto on all. If they aren't that old , at least take them out and douche them thoroughly w/ MAF or Electronic Contact Cleaner. If your running X2 Plats, you can reduce your combustion chamber temp. a fair amount by switching to some Motorcraft Copper Cores. Finewires run a little cooler too, but the copper cores have the best thermal transfer properties. They're also the safest for your engine until you rectify your over lean condition. Check your base time also. I run 16BTDC but change it back to stock (10BTDC) for the test. Remember to remove the spout plug to check or adjust base timing or your looking at your EEC adjusted timing instead!

Here's a pic of what the spout looks like and a relative location....it's in the area of the brake booster if that helps.

"And a fine specimen of a Spout Plug it is!" An alternative location is, coming out of the wire bundle going to TFI. You would think Ford could at least be consistent w/ the Spout connector location. "Not!" Side Question:Subford"s got a photobucket w/ lots of great pics?

Thanks for the quick responses I'm going to go grab the scanner now and see if that's the problem.

so, it's still reading 193 degrees as the intake temp, but when I go to graph it, it says ect, is that engine coolant temperature? Maybe my scanner's messed up. also, the o2 sensors aren't reading steady at all both of them are jumping all around even at idle so should I replace them? This is my first OBD2 vehicle and I'm starting to severely regret buying it.

ECT (Electronic Coolant Temp. sensor) & that's a good #. The O2 sensors are supposed to do that. It's called "switching". The faster the better. When they start slowing down, they're close to the end of their usable life. You should have taken the Manual home w/ the scanner! Knowedge is always good. Knowing what to do w/it is even better!

Subford is THE man for wiring diagrams. Unfortunately, he doesn't frequent the forums as much as he used to and I scammed that pic off Google. it's also possible that the ECT sensor is bad and throwing off your reading.

Well... I changed the o2 sensors and cleared it. $90 and 25 miles later it's still throwing the codes. Any other suggestions?
