Thumbs up New Here... Pics

What's up everyone

I just bought a 96 f150 xl 4x2 with 157,000 miles. It came with the 4.9, and a 5-speed. The truck has a lift, exhaust, a viper alarm, and a Delta toolbox that i haven't mounted yet. I got it for $2,000 from someone on craigslist.

Now for the bad side...
It has a large tear on the drivers side of the bench, the temp and oil gauge are not working. Also i think the lift might not have been installed properly. Hopefully you guys can give me some pointers on all these things.

Besides that i actually love this truck the 4.9 is awesome it can pull anything!

Welcome to the forum!

I'd watch eBay or Craigslist for a good deal on a replacement seat - with some patience, you'll find the right seat for the right price.

The temp and oil guages work off an electronic sender - you're pretty much stuck with the sender not working, the wiring messed up, or the guage itself quit on you. You can locate the sender and check for continuity between it and the guage to get started. From there, if you have a volt meter you can check the sender itself.

We can talk you through testing these if you aren't sure where to start. If you don't have a voltmeter, you can get one at your auto parts store for $15 or so. You can also pick up a Chilton or Haynes manual for about $20 that'll help you as long as you own the truck.

The lift? What makes you think it's not installed right?

well i really don't know a whole lot about lifts but it just seems like is missing a few parts. I've seen some trucks lifted by professional shops and they all have extra shock absorbers and steering dampers.

I guess I better start learning about lifted suspensions since I actually like the way the truck looks.

I'll take more pics of the underside tomorrow maybe you guys can see if something's not right

The lack of extra shocks and dampeners don't mean it's wrong. A basic lift is simply a basic lift. Lots of guys like to make the truck look like it'll climb a tree, and go a bit overboard. I wouldn't get too nervous about the lack of extra shocks - you can always add those later if you want to.
