Default New air filter

Hey everyone I just wanted to post this so maybe it will help people with the 4.9s if they want an aftermarket cone single inlet filter. Since our trucks have dual air intakes it seemed quite difficult to me to connect those two pipes to one single inlet cone filter. I went to Lowes and picked up some black piping from the plumbing section it was called a street wye. I then connected it as seen in the picture. It does work, my truck idles better and has a bit better throttle response and my exhaust even sounds more throaty and harsh. The filter was give to me but I had to buy the oil to oil it with and the pipe to rig it up. It's a Spectre air filter.

Just out of curiosity, was there a reason you did this versus just buying a better drop in air filter? I see you haven't removed the old air box.

Are you trying to get more HP?

What's the reason for this?

I have a similar question concerning my 95 air intake but I don't want to shat in your Cheerios

I would just get a 4.9L MAF intake tube instead but to each his own.

The reason I left the old air box is because I'm having some blow back and I wanted to keep the pcv valve in the air box instead of rigging something else up. Plus the filter has something to sit on now. So it's not hurting anything.

With a warm air intake you get better mpgs. Less power, more mpgs. But it does have more hp I truly believe just because it's a bigger filter and shorter distance between the air filter and the motor. The air doesn't have to travel as far to get to the motor. All in all it breathes better.
