is it my HUB?
i have a 93 f150 302 5.0 4x4 and everything was working fine with the 4wheel drive yesterday. i started driving it today in 4wheel bc of snow and there was a loud thump in my left front tire. it kept getting worse and louder and harder. in 2 wheel its fine. it got to a point when i was climbing a hill in 4 wheel it clunked and i lost 4 wheel all together and just had the back wheels spinning.. then it thumped again and it engaged 4 wheel again... u joints all look fine and the hub seemed like it had some shavings in it but nothing major... could it be the hub making such a disturbing loud thud? help me out please

i tore the hub out and everything was fine. when the hubs are locked it doesnt do it. only if 4 wheel is engaged. and i figured if it was the u-joint it would be frequent when 4 wheel was engaged. im thinking transfer case? i hope not but does this sound most likely?

it engages and disenages as it shoud no grinding or even slipping.i talked to someone who said it could very well be the u joint on that side which makes sense and seems to be the only thing that could make such a loud and disturbing bang. thanks for the reponses though im gonna change the u joint here soon and update you. i hope its that and not the transfer case...
