must vent
so sunday morning 8 am i was feeding my son on the couch and crunch!!!!
i couldnt just jump up to see what it was but a few minutes later i went out to see what the noise was. i looked over my truck and sure enough my neibhor backed into me. now he didnt tell me i had to tell him. he drives a tractor trailer with a car transporter on it. the last car on the trailer was hangin off 2 feet and the cars bumper went rite thru my grill. it bent my grill, broke three of the four grill mounts and my passanger side headlight. the headlights are mounted to a composite housing which also mounts the grill. so i need two new headlight asemblys and a new billet grill. he said he will pay for the parts to fix it but in the same sentance said dont look for the most expensive parts. so i told him i didnt want to go thru the cops and ins. but after i walked away i called the cops. i hope it doesnt go that far but i got a report anyway. i told the neibhor i would look up the parts and print out a paper with the total. it came to 424.60 so we will see if he pays or if this is going to be a long drawn out process. im just anoyed at the whole thing and had to vent.

I had a similar experience. Our neighbor backed into my son's Ranger, who was home visiting . . . caving in the passenger side door and part of the right rear fender. The bill from a professional shop was 1300, a friend of mine, who does work on the side, was 900. So I showed the two to the neighbor, telling him I was comfortable with the 900.
I took the truck in and then the neighbor gets cold feet, saying he didn't think that his wife's car could do that much damage, offering to pay for half. I wanted to go off on him, but kept my cool, calmly explaining the truck had no prior damage . . . ending the conversation saying, "just do what you think is right."
He showed up two days later with the 900.
I hope it works out as well with you.

That sucks man. To be completely honest, if somebody did that to one of my vehicles, and they threatened cold feet or whatnot, I would simply get quotes from 3 body shops and then report it to their insurance and start a claim. That's the whole point of carrying it. Good call on getting a police report as backup too.
If I backed into somebody else's car, I would be obligated to take care of it cause it was my screw up and that ship sails both ways. I would want it repaired to a degree that you couldn't tell a difference that it had even ever been damaged.

got the estimate 584.65 and im going to talk to the neibhor tonight to see if they got the paper i left them with the part prices, and when i can expect the money. i need to get the money by friday or submit a claim before its to late. does anyone know how long you have to submita a claim with ins.?
I probably would have went about it the same exact way as you did (being your neighbor and all). Keep in mind, he may have not known he even hit your truck. I remember when I was young riding with my father (he is a truck driver), a cop bumped us in the *** of the trailer, no damage to either vehicle. truthfully, we didn't even know he had bumped us until he pulled up and notified us. Just sayin, I think you did alright, good thing you got the report to back up if he gets to thinking about leaving you high and dry. I think it will all work out fine
