Default Muffler?

I just bought my 1992 F-150 4.9L.

The previous owner replaced some exhaust, but didn't complete it. There is an exhaust pipe that comes straight off the cat, but only goes halfway to the back. I want to put a muffler on, but I still want it to have a decent sound.

I'm not looking for loud or crackly, but I do want to have a low rumble. What muffler would you suggest putting on? In the past I have had a 1996 Bronco with a 5.0L and I had a flowmaster (I don't know what model), but I loved the sound of it.

Should I put a Y pipe in and make it duels or would a single be sufficient?

It really depends on how loud or quiet that you would like your truck and what you primarily use it for(ie: towing, commuting, etc.). If you want the look of dual tailpipes, you could pick up a single in/ dual out muffler. There is no need to mess with a Y-pipe if you already have a single exhaust. If you are interested in a Flowmaster muffler or system, give us a call at 707-544-4761 and one of our techs will walk you through your options. Good luck!

If you want power I would not recommend Flow-masters.... They tend to be more restrictive then some of the other mufflers. Although, I really like the sound of them. Don't get me wrong they are much better then stock.

My friend had a two chamber 1-in 1-out with a dump under the bed Flowmaster on his 4.9L F-150. Just had a loud drone sound... Before that he had a glasspack....Sounded almost the same. He liked the sound of the Flowmaster better.

I have had the 10 series and the 40 series on the 5.0L.....I enjoyed the sound of both....I liked the more aggressive 10 series better....

I currently run a SLP Loud Mouth Resonator on my 5.8L. Sounds like a 10 series just less restrictive and more power. No backfiring or popping noise like the Flowmaster had....Sounds like a race car.

Flowmaster's chambered muffler design scavenges exhaust gases, which increases exhaust velocity and allows your vehicle to run more efficiently, freeing up more available power. Many muffler manufacturers advertise, test and rate the performance of their mufflers with the use of a flow bench(CFM rating). The problem with this methodology is that a flow bench produces a steady, low temperature stream of air and lacks the acoustical and thermal dynamics that are produced by an internal combustion engine. Flowmaster designs, tests, and proves its products under real world conditions in the dyno cell, at the track and on the road.

I have a 95 f150 4.9l and what I did with mine was delete the second cat and add a flowmaster super hp2. I like it better than 40 series because of the laminar flow tech. Can't speak for the 10 series. You can tell a difference. Air flows quicker and consistent. Sounds really good too. Not loud at idle but get on it and it will roar. It's a single out which I have coming out the side of bed angled backed with a 6" RBP tailpipe. Also increased pipe sizing to 2.5". Cost like $350 for everything.

When I'm ready to do this (it will be awhile, I'm just getting idea's). I might message you if you're okay with that.

I'm waiting for Corsa to make the system for the new 21 F150 5.0. They said it's being developed. Hope it's soon.
