Default motor switch

does any one know what kinda engine will fit in an 89 f150 regular cab long bed. i want to get a bigger engine and i want it to be 4x4 but i dont know what engine and trany will fit. i have a 5.0l v8 302 2wd. but i want something better. and if i cant get a good engine where can i find a 4x4 truck with a bigger engine for cheap?

Keep an eye out on craigslist, usually can find a descent deal on there for a not to high mileage 4x4. You can swap a 5.8 in that truck with little modification. Only thing diff from the 302 and 351 are the brackets on the front of the motor, nothin a trip to the junk yard cant fix.

would it bet cheaper to find a 4x4 truck or to switch motors?

That all depends if you plan to buy a new engine, or rebuild one. I think if it was me...if your not super mechanically inclined and dont have the facilities to do a motor swap I would just find a different pickup. You can swap all the 4x4 parts to your truck but its a pretty big job.
