Default more power?

well my project truck has a 4.9l straight 6 and ill be lifting and putting 33's on it and i know its going to kill the little bit of power it had. so is there anything i can get done to give her more power? maybe put a 302 in it?? could i put that in with the trans i have? i really like the idea of putting the 5.0 in it because i know how nice i can make it sound. so what are my options on giveing the 4.9 more power? i gotta pull the head anyways could i get the stock head ported or isnt it worth it for the gain ill get from that?

It would be a good idea to re-gear it

From what I understand, the 4.9 has better torque than the 5.0, power I'm not sure. Could be wrong though...
re-gearing is a must as well, if going up quite a few tire sizes from stock

i never understood why they say the 4.9 has more torque then the 5.0 the 5.0 has 5 more ft pounds of torque (the same pretty much...) and the 5.0 has 10-15 more horsepower. but yes re gearing is the best way to get back your missing power.

We can talk about torque and hp numbers all day long but a V8 has two more power strokes for every 2 full revolutions of the engine and THAT makes all the difference in the world.

I've had many 5.0's & now drive one, but damn. The 4.9's a good engine! I've had quite a few of them too.

Agreed, the fleet truck companies got pissed when ford stopped making the 4.9, they know what last the longest better than anyone IMO.

Back on topic, I personally would put the proper final gear ratio and drive it!

As a matter of fact, they were all fleet purchases, except the one I special ordered for my personal use. In 87', I wanted EFI, which was optional that year. Also all the other bells & whistles. It was a good year.
