Hi,

I just recently purchased a 1995 5.8 F150(2WD) and I was wondering whats a good place to look to do some modifications to the motor. It has 214000 on it and the body is rust free. I plan on rebuilding it and thought about putting a 95 ford lightning motor in it but wasn't sure if it would be compatible. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated

I'd start with dual exhaust, 824 front springs for level, 31's, upgrade the alternator, E-fan conversion. The motor you have should still have some life left in her, my 94 5.8 has 304K and still going strong. There really isn't that big of a difference between the 351 and the lightning's 351, gt40 style heads and a few other nuances, all of that for 35hp gain, most of the speed difference between the two comes from the SVT having 4.10 factory gears, which will kill the towing power and mpg.

Auto or manual in there now?

wouldn't 4.10s be better for towing?

4.10's don't kill mpg but can lower it slightly on the highway

its cool man I understand I wish I had 4.10s in my truck, really if I do what I want to do im gonna run 4.56s and 35s but anywho a e-fan upgrade, headers, and a timing bump would help and just be sure to keep all your maintenance good and these trucks will last forever

Thanks guys, Its an automatic. it has a tranny cooler/oil cooler on it and I believe there is 3.08s in the differential. I did notice mine runs a little hot to even after I changed the water pump/thermostat. What size tire would fit on the 15" rim without having to worry about it rubbing? For the budget less then 5000 until the motor needs rebuilding.
