Default MAP Sensor - Looks strange or missing the cover?

I replaced my MAP Sensor a year or so ago and it recently went bad. When I took it off, water started coming out of holes on the cover of it, so I don't know what that's about, but this time around, I checked parts numbers to ensure it was right.

Well, the other day, I went to AutoZone to get a new MAP sensor and I noticed that it was missing a cover on the top to prevent water from getting down into it. I ended up getting my money back on it because the cover was open.

I ended up getting another MAP sensor (made by BWD) from somewhere else. Low and behold, it looked like it was missing a cover, so I figured I'd take pictures and post it.

My concern is if I install this sensor, if I install the open side up, it will hold water. If I install open side down, the engine heat will make that gel ooze out of it, causing the sensor to go bad.

Is this something I'm unaware of regarding how the MAP sensor is supposed to look or am I correct in seeing that it's missing a cover.

For now, I have the Motorcraft sensor that came on the truck back on it.

Thoughts?

You ain't melting that gel unless you throw it in a fire, and it's there for waterproofing. Face it down.

I installed it and my truck runs fine. I guess it's one of those here goes nothing type deals. Hopefully it lasts.

As Sean said, it's definitely not missing anything. All the electronics are coated in potting compound to protect them.
