Why wouldnt an intake help?

Straighter/smoother and bigger tubing and cone filter should provide more efficient air flow making the engine work less to suck in air. Which should give ya some MPGs and some HP (not much but something).

Not exactly. The dual tubing is there from what I heard to make more torque. If you want better air flow get a K&N filter and be done with it. Thats what I did. The only thing that would truely help you out would be a ram air intake but that would mess with alot of stuff.

Is there a noticeable difference between the K&N replacement and stock paper filter?

Yes theres a big difference. Mine used to idle about 1000rpms and after popping this in and a couple tweaks, i dropped it to around 850rpms.
And Also its alot better than the paper not only for the environment but for your engine. Its reusable up to 1million miles.
Plus I get a little better gas millage. Not much of a difference, but I can notice i.

Nice. Air filter is on the maintenance list soon. Sounds like it's worth it.
