Default M5OD-R2 question

Last year I upgraded to a 4wd. I got an already pulled M5OD-R2 with transfer case supposed to be in good shape for $350 or $300. But it came out of a 91 or 90. And wasn't in perfect shape (typical input shaft bearing whine). Now, my question is. I have a 93 that was an M5OD-R2 that I pulled. It had that same whine to it but I might change that bearing. If I change that bearing...
1) can I do it without breaking into the internals?
2) can I take just the housing piece tail shaft from the 4wd 91 and convert my 93 transmission into a 4wd or is the shaft different?

Ok that it. I need to find a ZF, small block 4wd and just get what I really want for it.
